A medical spa, or “medspa,” is a blend of a traditional day spa and a medical office. It is a place that people can go to get medical-grade treatments and procedures while enjoying a relaxing, spa-like atmosphere. For those who have never been to a medspa, it is good to know that every procedure is performed under the supervision of a doctor.
For those who have never been to a medspa, it is good to know that every procedure is performed under the supervision of a doctor. Most often a dermatologist or plastic surgeon is the one supervising. Another great benefit is that most of these treatments have a short recovery time at just three to 18 months.
Types of medspa procedures
Medspas have many great filler treatment options to combat aging and skin damage. Here are some of the most popular:
1. Botox®
Many people are familiar with Botox® injections, as they are commonly used in cosmetic medicine. The treatment provides a number of benefits including reducing fine lines, minimizing wrinkles, tightening the skin and even reducing dental pain as a result of TMJ or bruxism.
2. Juvederm® fillers
Aside from Botox®, there are a number of other facial fillers that are offered at medspas. One popular option is Juvederm®, which is a hyaluronic acid-based dermal filler. The medspa treatment is used to plump the skin while reducing fine lines and wrinkles that can cause sagging or loose skin in the facial area.
3. Voluma® fillers
Voluma® is another medspa injectable filler that is used to volumize the face, as it is referred to as a dense treatment option. As aging occurs, the face can shrink, which can result in a sunken-in appearance. Additionally, those that suffer from severe dental problems may require a certain type of filler to help fill the face out after jaw or bone loss. Voluma is often used for cheek or midfacial augmentation.
4. Dysport®
Dysport addresses frown lines in between the eyebrows, which often occur as a result of squinting or other stressors on the upper facial area. It is a prescription injectable that works temporarily to treat the lines. Medspas offer Dysport to individuals who are under the age of 65.
5. Restylane Lyft® and Kysse
Both Restylane Lyft® and Kysse are injectable fillers that are used in medspas to address fine lines around the face. Specifically, most people get it for their lips. Restylane Lyft® has larger hyaluronic acid gel particles than Kysse; however, they both offer similar results.
Get started with a medspa treatment
Not all medical spas and treatments are equal. Most of the procedures listed above are safe for most skin types and colors. That said, it is important to discuss your options with your regular physician or dermatologist. If you are still unsure about treatment, it is best to request a consultation. Any questions or concerns can be appropriately addressed, and an evaluation can be done.
